Biography

Mrs. Betty Jean Pride departed this life on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009 at Glenwood Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie D. Pride, her mother, Ruby June Harrison and her sister, Evangelist Willie Mae Lafity Scott.

Mrs. Pride was born June 30, 1931 to the late Ruby June Harrison and the late J.D. Ward of Florence, Alabama.

At an early age, she accepted Christ at Nicholas Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served in various youth leadership positions within the youth programs of the Church. Following her graduation from Burrell-Slater Normal High School, she attended the College of Cosmetology in Chicago, Illinois, earning a degree in Cosmetology. She returned to Florence in 1962 and opened her own Beauty Shop in East Florence where she served the beauty needs of the community for many years. She also served the elder care needs of the community as a home care nurse in more recent years.
Subsequent to her return to Florence from Chicago, she became a member of the Revival Center Church of God in Christ where she remained a member until her death.


In 1964 she married Willie D. Pride of Barton, Alabama; and of this union was born her two youngest children, a daughter Wilhelmina D. Pride and a son, June Allen Pride.
